Costa Rica has the last ticket to the 2022 World Cup finals

Costa Rica became the last team to qualify for the 2022 World Cup finals, after a 1-0 victory over New Zealand in the intercontinental play-off match.

The goal of the play-off match against Costa Rica was only 3 minutes after the opening whistle at Al Rayyan (Qatar). Jefferson Bennette escaped to the left and then stretched to let Joel Campbell put his heart into the New Zealand net.

New Zealand struggled to bounce back after an early goal and the back of the net after 41 minutes. However, a vital resource from receiving Chris Wood’s goal after consulting VAR, as a Costa Rica player had previously fouled Matthew Garbett.

In the second half, VAR again stepped in, leading to a decision against New Zealand in the 69th minute. Striker Kosta Barbarouses received a direct red card for a rough foul just minutes after coming on as a substitute.

Due to the lack of people, New Zealand played with determination with the spirit of having nothing to lose. However, goalkeeper Keylor Navas could show excellent form to protect the result for Costa Rica and the score of 1-0 was maintained until the end of time.

Costa Rica beat New Zealand 1-0 thanks to a goal from Joel Campbell.

Costa Rica became the last team to qualify for the 2022 World Cup. The CONCACAF regional representative will join Group E with Japan, Germany, and Spain when they return to Qatar to compete later this year.
